Folk and Foundry LLC is located in Spokane, Washington. We believe arts engagement is a vital aspect of the human experience, not just for those with natural talent and career pursuits. It is through the preservation of what we find beautiful, in art and artistic processes, that we create a heritage for future generations. We partner with emerging and independent folk artists in the INW to develop products and license artwork from regional artists to list in our shop.
Folk Art
The term “Folk” stems from a German word, folc (fólk), meaning “people” or “a people.” In its broadest sense, folk art means art derived from a people, or folk. Unlike fine art and arts learned in college settings, folk arts develop from and are inspired by deeply-rooted community traditions. These art forms are born of a community’s regional heritage, including natural resources, history, cultural migration, and a shared sense of pride in its community members’ creative ingenuity. Folk arts are accessible, born from what a community values, and embody the full range of creative activities and objects enjoyed by ordinary folks every day.
